Good to know

Only natural trees fall. Logs you placed yourself are never felled, so your builds are safe.
Trees that grew into each other are split by their trunk: only the tree you chop comes down. Chop the trunk itself, near the ground, for the best result.
After felling, the tree feller recharges for half a second per log felled: under a minute for a normal tree, over an hour for a giant tree of thousands of logs. Meanwhile you chop log by log as usual; the action bar shows how long is left. Logging out does not skip it.
Drops land at the base of the tree.
Your axe loses durability for every log. Unbreaking helps. When your axe has 1 durability left, felling stops with a warning, so the tree feller never breaks your axe. Repair it or use another axe.
Claims and protected areas apply: you cannot fell trees where you cannot break blocks.
Leaves that are no longer attached to a tree disappear within seconds and drop saplings and apples as usual.
